ACTIVITIES WHICH ARE INCLUDED;

  • Sessions with young people where they learn creative writing and newspaper production skills including IT skills and produce actual newspaper.
  • For adult and unemployed people basic computing and working with specific software’s included Microsoft Words, Illustrator, Photoshop which make them able to do graphic designing and typing in their mother language.
  • Session with women; basic IT skills including operating computers, visiting internet, doing online forms, shopping, gathering information, making application. Also learn on healthy life style, healthy cooking and diet food.
  • Women’s only exercise class
  • Healthy cooking session
  • Conference/group meeting on different issues
  • Activities for whole family.

AIMS AND OBJECTIVE’S

The aim of the Young News is to publish news papers involving directly its beneficiaries during the process through workshops and seminar. All news papers published by the Young News targets a specific section of the local community. The aim is also to provide a continues support to the beneficiaries by:

  • Creating an opportunity for young people to gain training and workshop experience on journalism, creative writing, design and lay out news paper, IT skills and all other aspect of newspaper production.
  • Engaging young people in a creative environment and therefore keeping them out of the street, away from nuisance, vandalism and most importantly from drugs.

  • Providing support to the participants in expanding the horizon of knowledge and help to be up to date with latest information and development
  • Increasing the practice of reading and writing in an innovative way outside school
  • Providing basic computer skills to local adult community
  • Involve mothers into activities and educate them with more knowledge on health and healthy eating at home
  • Promoting and encouraging the notion of volunteering
  • Increase the young people’s participation in ‘important matters’ -where they will have to take decisions in a practical problem situation through editing, managing and supervising the publication of News Paper.
  • Supporting young people to build confidence by creating opportunities for publishing new writing.
  • Providing a unique service in Tower Hamlets, which would have been otherwise difficult to access by the user groups.
  • Working mainly with the disadvantage groups in the community who would normally be excluded from such initiatives.
  • Opening up a new area of career for those groups who would not normally choose a similar occupation.
  • Actually creating jobs (journalist on a free lance basis, to be recruited through training).
